Active balls for sulfur recovery are white spherical granules that are insoluble in water and organic solvents but soluble in strong acid and strong alkali solutions. They exhibit hygroscopic properties in air but do not swell or crack after absorbing water. This product is an improved sulfur recovery catalyst. The intrinsic activity of the AL₂O₃-based catalyst for the Claus reaction, its resistance to sulfate poisoning, and its activity and stability after both “mild aging” and “severe aging” treatments all outperform those of AL₂O₃ catalysts currently used in industry.
